FREE FROM THE BURDEN OF PEOPLE-PLEASING
TESTAMENT OF GRACE GLOBAL ASSEMBLY (GRACE REVIVAL CENTRE)
LIFELINES DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY OCTOBER 17,2026
TOPIC:FREE FROM THE BURDEN OF PEOPLE-PLEASING
BIBLE VERSE
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”-Galatians 1:10 (NIV)
MEDITATION
The burden of people-pleasing arises when we allow the desire for human approval to determine our decisions, silence our convictions, and distract us from obeying God. King Saul provides a powerful example of this struggle; although God commanded him to destroy the Amalekites and everything belonging to them, Saul spared King Agag and the best livestock, eventually admitting to Samuel, “I was afraid of the men and so I gave in to them” (1 Samuel 15:24). His fear of people’s reactions led him to disobey God’s instructions and lose the privilege of continuing as king. His experience reminds us that seeking human approval at the expense of God’s will can be spiritually costly. Through Christ, however, we can find freedom from this burden by grounding our identity in God’s love, developing the courage to stand by biblical convictions, and learning that faithfulness to God matters more than applause from people. We are not called to live carelessly or disrespectfully toward others, but neither should we compromise our obedience to God merely to remain accepted.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, deliver me from the fear of rejection and the burden of seeking everyone’s approval. Give me the courage to stand for Your truth, the wisdom to treat others with love, and the strength to obey You even when doing so is unpopular. Let pleasing You be my greatest desire. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
