FREE FROM DESTRUCTIVE HABITS

TESTAMENT OF GRACE GLOBAL ASSEMBLY (GRACE REVIVAL CENTRE)
LIFELINES DEVOTIONAL FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16,2026
TOPIC:FREE FROM DESTRUCTIVE HABITS
BIBLE VERSE
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
-1 Corinthians 6:12 (NIV)
MEDITATION
Destructive habits often begin as choices but gradually become patterns that control our time, damage our relationships, weaken our spiritual lives, and rob us of the freedom God desires for us. The story of Zacchaeus provides a powerful example of how an encounter with Christ can transform a person’s behaviour. As a chief tax collector, Zacchaeus had become wealthy through a profession associated with exploitation and dishonesty, but when Jesus entered his life, he responded with genuine repentance, promising to give half his possessions to the poor and repay fourfold anyone he had cheated (Luke 19:1–10). His encounter with Jesus produced a visible change in his priorities and actions. In the same way, Christ can deliver us from destructive habits by renewing our minds, strengthening our will, and teaching us to choose what honours Him. We must acknowledge the habits that enslave us, seek God’s help, and take practical steps towards change, remembering that we are called to exercise self-control rather than allow anything to become our master.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, deliver me from every destructive habit that seeks to control my life. Renew my mind, strengthen me to resist temptation, and give me the discipline to make choices that honour You. Let my life reflect the freedom and transformation I have received through Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
