VICTORY OVER SIN

BIBLE VERSE
“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” — Romans 6:14 (KJV)»

MEDITATION
Victory over sin is important because Christ did not save us merely to forgive our sins but also to free us from sin’s dominion. Romans 6:14 assures us that sin no longer has the right to rule over those who are in Christ. Grace does not give us permission to continue in sin; rather, it gives us the power to live differently. Jesus said, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). Therefore, the believer should not accept bondage to habits, attitudes, or desires that dishonour God, because Christ has made freedom possible.

Joseph demonstrated this victory when Potiphar’s wife repeatedly tempted him to commit sexual sin. Joseph refused, declaring, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9). He understood that sin was ultimately an offence against God, and he chose obedience even when doing so brought personal cost. Victory over sin matters because our conduct affects our fellowship with God, our testimony before others, and our ability to fulfil His purposes. 1 Peter 1:15–16 calls believers to holiness, while Jesus teaches that our light should shine before others so that God may be glorified through our lives (Matthew 5:16).

Victory over sin is not achieved by human determination alone but through daily dependence on Christ and the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16 says, “Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh,” while Romans 8:13 teaches that through the Spirit we can put to death the deeds of the body. Feed your spirit with God’s Word, remain prayerful, flee occasions of temptation, and quickly turn to God when you stumble. You are not a slave to sin; you are a person whom Christ has redeemed. Grace has broken sin’s dominion, and through Christ you can live a life that reflects the freedom, holiness, and victory God has given you.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for freeing me from the dominion of sin through Christ. Strengthen me by Your Spirit to resist every temptation, walk in holiness, and honour You with my life. Let Your grace continually empower me to live in the freedom Christ has purchased for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen
