FREE FROM THE GRIP OF MAMMON

TESTAMENT OF GRACE GLOBAL ASSEMBLY (GRACE REVIVAL CENTRE)

LIFELINES DEVOTIONAL FOR WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21,2026

TOPIC:FREE FROM THE GRIP OF MAMMON

BIBLE VERSE
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”-Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

MEDITATION

Mammon represents the power of money and material possessions when they become objects of trust, devotion, and control, competing with God for the authority to direct our lives. The rich tax collector Zacchaeus provides a powerful example of deliverance from this grip. Before encountering Jesus, Zacchaeus had accumulated wealth through a profession associated with exploitation and dishonesty, but his encounter with Christ transformed his attitude towards money and possessions. He voluntarily committed to giving half of his possessions to the poor and repaying fourfold anyone he had cheated (Luke 19:1–10). His response demonstrated that money no longer occupied the throne of his heart because he was willing to use his resources to correct injustice and bless others. Likewise, God delivers believers from the grip of Mammon by transforming their values, teaching them to find security in Him rather than riches, and enabling them to practise generosity, integrity, and contentment. Financial prosperity is not itself the enemy; the danger arises when money becomes our master instead of a resource entrusted to us by God.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, deliver my heart from the grip of Mammon and every desire that competes with my devotion to You. Teach me to trust Your provision, manage my resources with wisdom, practise generosity, and use my finances to honour You and bless others. Let You alone remain the Master of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
