VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION

TOPIC:VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION

BIBLE VERSE

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” — 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

MEDITATION
Temptation is not evidence that a believer has lost God’s favour; it is an opportunity to exercise faith and choose obedience. Paul assures us that temptation is “common to man” and, more importantly, that God is faithful. He does not abandon us when temptation comes, but provides grace and a way of escape. Jesus demonstrated this in the wilderness when Satan tempted Him to satisfy His hunger, test God’s protection, and pursue worldly glory. Jesus answered each temptation with “It is written” (Matthew 4:1–11), showing us that God’s Word gives us strength to recognize and reject the enemy’s suggestions.

Joseph provides another powerful example of victory over temptation. When Potiphar’s wife attempted to seduce him, Joseph refused, saying, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9). Joseph understood that temptation was not merely about an attractive opportunity but about remaining faithful to God. He eventually fled from the situation rather than trying to prove that he could withstand it. His example teaches us that sometimes the way of escape is to walk away. Scripture therefore instructs us to “flee youthful lusts” (2 Timothy 2:22) and to “resist the devil” (James 4:7). Victory may require prayer, Scripture, wise boundaries, and the courage to remove ourselves from situations that continually invite compromise.

When temptation comes, remember that you are not powerless and you are not alone. Romans 6:14 declares, “For sin shall not have dominion over you,” while Philippians 4:13 reminds us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Do not entertain what God has called you to resist, and do not mistake the presence of temptation for permission to surrender. Look for the escape route God has provided, strengthen yourself through His Word, and depend upon the Holy Spirit for strength. The temptation may be strong, but God’s grace is stronger; the battle may be real, but victory is possible through Christ.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness when I face temptation. Give me discernment to recognize every trap, strength to resist every wrong desire, and wisdom to take every escape route You provide. Let Your Word guide me and Your Spirit strengthen me, so that I may walk in purity and victory through Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
